Built to last: A spotlight on our Container Tiny Homes

04th October 2024

If you think about the journey a shipping container makes across the world to deliver goods from country to country, you’ll quickly realise that they contain – pun intended – the ideal foundations for living or ‘doing’ spaces.

But there are quite a few other elements that make these containers ideal for your next tiny home, so let’s take you through them!

Durability at its finest

First of all, you should know that we exclusively purchase A-grade containers. Notably, an A-grade container will have a CSC Plate (this means a certification to say that the container has been constructed, inspected, and tested as per international security standards). This also means that the interior will be 80% scuff and scratch mark-free, the floors clean with minimal marks and stains, with minimal exterior surface corrosion.

We engineer our Container Tiny Homes to leverage this resilience – their inherent durability makes them an ideal choice for tiny living, ensuring that your Tiny Home can also endure various environments while offering a safe and secure living space.

As you know, these containers are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, including high winds and heavy rain. On top of that, we are able to construct our Container Tiny Homes up to a rating of BAL-29, which means they are pretty well fire resistant. That said, we’ll never recommend that you put yourself in danger of fire – it just means that if you live in a bushfire prone area, your belongings may be safe inside your home in the event of fire. (P.S. If you’ve never heard of BAL, it stands for Bushfire Attack Level – you can read more here on BAL ratings, and how they’re assigned.)

By now, you probably understand that our Container Tiny Homes are pretty durable, which also makes them super secure. Should your container be a holiday home or shack (i.e., in a location that you’re not at all the time), you’ll also have peace of mind when you’re away, knowing that they are well protected.

Standard requirements for an A-grade Container (from SCF)

  • Cargo-worthy minimum standard with valid CSC Plate
  • Interior will be minimum 80% mark free with some scuffing or scratching
  • Floor will be clean with minimal transferable marks or stains, with scratches not exceeding 2mm in depth
  • May have minimal exterior surface corrosion, and negligible denting
  • Near-new, refurbished, and used containers fall into this grade

Energy efficiency for days

In an era where sustainability is a top priority (and rightly so), our Container Tiny Homes offer a highly eco-friendly alternative to traditional building methods.

The repurposing of containers reduces waste and minimises the need for new construction materials. As we’ve already seen, shipping containers are robust and designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions, meaning they have a long lifespan and require minimal maintenance. And because all construction happens at our premises, freighting emissions during the build are minimal, adding to a more eco-conscious approach to the creation of your Tiny Home.

The eco-credentials of our tiny homes are enhanced, of course, by their size. Given their compactness, they are cost-efficient to heat and cool – not to mention, they don’t require much power to do either of these things. In other words, Container Tiny Homes aren’t just green in construction, but also in operation.

Mindful minimalism in style

Our Container Tiny Homes embody the principles of minimalist living. The compact design not only encourages efficient use of space but promotes a simpler and more intentional lifestyle. With a focus on functionality and smart design, these homes make the most out of every square foot.

Plus, the unique aesthetic of shipping container homes adds a timeless industrial charm to any setting. Our commitment to both functionality and style ensures that your tiny isn’t just practical but also visually appealing.

If we haven’t already sold you on a Tiny Container Home…

One of the standout features of a shipping container home is their portability. While we construct all Tiny Homes at our Tasmanian workshop, our containers are easily transported to where you require them, whether it be in our home state or on the mainland! Once we install your tiny home, it’s not freely mobile, but, if required, there is certainly still opportunity to find a new home site for your container if needed.

Their affordability, sustainability and durability make the Tiny Container Home a standout choice for those seeking innovative, eco-friendly living solutions. Whether you’re drawn to the cost savings, the rapid construction timeline, or the minimalist design, our Tiny Container Homes offer a compelling answer to some of today’s most pressing housing challenges.

As the world continues to evolve, we believe our container homes are set to become a major player in the future of housing, offering a blend of practicality, style, and sustainability that is hard to beat.
