Tucked away on Bennett Street in South Launceston, this install stands as one of our most ambitious to date – and easily the most epic in Tiny Homes Tasmania's history.
We simultaneously built two Big60 Bigger Tiny Homes for our local Launceston client, understanding one was to become an Airbnb. Once completed, the second stage of the project involved the delivery and installation of the two units onto a single residential block of a busy main road.
While our BIG60s are designed to be road-transportable in one piece, the access to this particular block presented a whole new set of challenges. Both units were loaded onto the back of a low-bed flat tray and driven from our HQ to their new home in South Launceston.
The driveway access was not only steep, but incredibly narrow – we're talking millimetres of clearance on either side. To make it work, we had to manage traffic and approach from the opposite side of the street, ensuring every move was deliberate and precise.
Getting the homes onto the site required a crane, and the 40-meter lift became our longest to date. Fair to say, precision was everything! We carefully positioned the first BIG60 on the previously installed black footings, navigating the tight access with a low and slow approach. Once we had the first in place, it was time to rinse and repeat! Learning from the first, we were able to get the second install done with much less teeth-gritting.
Two homes. One install. A whole lot of patience, teamwork, and attention to detail. The result? A standout project that truly shows what's possible with tiny living — even on the most challenging sites.
